Jack Rinock                                    

            Harbor Springs, MI 

John R. “Jack” Rinock, 74, of Harbor Springs, died at home on Oct. 5, 2021 with his wife and kids by his side. 

 Jack was born in Petoskey on May 18, 1947, the son of John S. and Patricia (Morris) Rinock. He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1965. He joined the United States Navy later that year and served as a Radarman 2nd Class on the USS Chipola, USS Reeves, and USS Waddell during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. 

 After the service, he worked at The Advertiser in Petoskey for seven years. In 1979, he started his own business called “Rinock Construction”. Throughout his career, Jack built several homes and worked on many remodel projects in the area. 

 In 1986, Jack attended flight school in Lubbock, Texas, where he obtained a pilot’s license and instrument rating. Afterwards, he bought a Cessna 172 with his brothers. He loved flying and attended the Oshkosh Air Show 26 times. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and skiing with his family and friends. 

 In his spare time, Jack was an accomplished, self-taught artist, creating many works in pencil and watercolor that were proudly displayed in his home. He was also an expert craftsman and excelled at wood working, building furniture, and fixing all things mechanical. 

 On July 15, 1995, he married Dianne (Hunt) Rinock in Harbor Springs, Michigan. As a family, Jack, Dianne, Lindsey, and Matthew had many adventures throughout the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. Together, they built a happy home filled with countless memories. 

 Jack is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dianne; daughter, Lindsey (Justin) Vroman; son, Matthew (Cari) Pagel; grandchildren, Max, Jacob, and Evelyn Vroman; sister, Patricia Knight; brother, Ron (Julie) Rinock; sisters-in-law, Diana Powers, Donna Rinock, and Janice (Bill) Dodge; brother-in-law, Ed (Jan) Hunt; nieces and nephews, Jeff (Margaret) Powers, Eric (Julie) Powers, Jill (Jim) Allen, Julie Wyatt, Angie (Mike) Harrier, Will (Jennie) Dodge, Tim (Cari) Hunt, Carrie Dodge, and Jennifer (Kyle) Mason; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. 

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; brother Dennis Rinock; brother Bill Powers; niece Tracy Rinock Shanley; in-laws Max and Nadyne Hunt; and nephew Darryl Hunt. 

 There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held the following day, Oct. 22, 2021 at Stone Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Rev. David Behling will officiate. Burial will be held privately at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs.
