Martha L. Blumke, of Alanson, died April 5, 2012, at her home at the age of 63.  

Martha was born May 15, 1948, in Detroit, to Wilbur and Madlynn (Strand) Foltz. She grew up in Petoskey and attended St. Francis Catholic School and Petoskey High School graduating with the class of 1966.

Martha has worked over the years for a number of area businesses, among these were the Petoskey News-Review, Old Kent Bank, Big Rock and the Bay View Association.  

Martha was a devoted mother and grandmother, she was there to lend a helping hand or offer kind words of encouragement to anyone in need, both family, friend and stranger alike. She was an example and an inspiration to her children and grandchildren until her very last day. 

Martha is survived by her daughters, Pam (Paul) Groenewoud of Levering, Tami Spreder of Caro and Jazmin Blumke of Petoskey. Also surviving Martha are her grandchildren, Brittini Spreder, age 18, Nikki Spreder, age 15, Emma Groenewoud, age 15, Vanessa Groenewoud, age 5, Benjamin Groenewoud, age 2, Madlynn Groenewoud, age 5 months, and Marissa Givens, age 16. Her surviving siblings include Dennis (Connie) Foltz and Wilma Scott. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and by her son whom she loved with all of her heart, Edward William Blumke.  

Martha leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories; she will be deeply missed.

A memorial service celebrating Martha's life has been planned for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey with the Rev. David Behling officiating.
